We are really excited about is the newest Lilac in the garden, “Bloomerang”.

Bloomerang will bloom in the spring with the rest of the lilacs and then bloom off and on all summer long. In the fall, Bloomerang will have another large flush of fragrant blooms.

After blooming in the spring, you will trim off the old blooms, just as you would for a traditional lilac. If summer temperatures are hot, Bloomerang may take a brief break from flowering and then bloom again in the fall when temperatures cool. Bloomerang will then flower until frost.

Bloomerang is deer resistant and cold hard to Zone 3 (-40C). It is dwarf lilac growing about 4-5 feet (1.2-1.5m) high and about 5 feet (1.5m) high. Since you trim the boomerang after each new show of flowers you can keep this plant to any height you want

Care is easy. Like most lilacs, Bloomerang should be planted in a sunny location. Grow in well drained soil avoiding planting near downspouts or in low areas of the yard. Bloomerang show good powdery mildew resistance.Lilacs bloom on new shoots of wood and will benefit from a slow release fertilizer in May . At Dutch Growers, we like to supplement with Plant Prod 20-20-20 every 3 weeks from May until August. This will promote more growth and hence more flowers.
