    • Appearance: Dark, velvety maroon-eggplant to near-black coloring. Petals feature twisted edges and occasional green streaks or accents.
    • Height: Grows to about 50–60 cm (20–24 inches) tall.
    • Bloom Time: Late spring (typically May to June).
    • Historical Significance: The variety “remains one of the most recognized and widely grown parrot tulips in the world,” carrying forward the legacy of the coveted feathered mutations popular since the 17th-century Tulip Mania
    Planting and Care Guide
Because parrot tulips have large, heavy flower heads, they are susceptible to damage from harsh weather. They thrive best when planted in “a place protected from rain and wind” to prevent their stems from snapping
    • When to Plant: Fall (September to December), once soil temperatures drop below 13°C (55°F).
    • Depth & Spacing: Plant bulbs roughly 15 cm (6 inches) deep and 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart. For maximum visual impact, plant them in bold groupings of 10 or more.
    • Light & Soil: Requires full sun to partial shade and highly well-drained soil. Poorly drained soil will cause the bulbs to rot.
    • Toxicity: Keep in mind that all parts of the tulip (especially the bulb) are toxic to humans, dogs, and cats. Wear gloves when handling them to avoid skin irritation
