Bogatyr is a Marbled Purple Stripe hardneck garlic variety known for its deep purple inner tunics, 4 to 6 large cloves, and pleasantly lingering aromatic warmth. The Van Noort package contains exactly 3 bulbs to be separated just before fall planting.

The green foliage grows in an upright clump to about 60 cm (24 in), followed by a flowering stalk in late spring. Hardy in zones 2 to 10, Bogatyr tolerates harsh winters and offers extended interest from spring emergence to a colorful summer harvest.

Plant in the fall in full sun or bright partial shade, in loose, fertile, cool, and perfectly drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Separate the 3 bulbs just before planting and place each clove, pointed end up, 8 cm (3 in) apart, leaving 15 cm (6 in) between plants. Water to encourage root development, then mulch after the soil has cooled. In spring, weed early, provide about 2.5 cm (1 in) of water per week, and fertilize moderately. Cut off the garlic scapes before they stand upright to support the size of the bulbs.
