  • Legacy Garlic ( Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon 'Legacy') is a hardneck Rocambole garlic that combines excellent flavor, hardiness, and easy-to-peel cloves. Each head typically contains 7 to 12 medium cloves arranged around a firm central stem.
  •  Its medium-to-strong flavor is clean and distinct without overpowering other ingredients, making it versatile for everyday cooking. The Van Noort package contains exactly 3 bulbs. The upright plants reach about 60 cm (24 in.), produce a drooping garlic scape in late spring, and are hardy to zone 2. The late-summer harvest is well-suited to the cooler climates of Quebec.

Plant the cloves in the fall, at least four weeks before the ground freezes permanently, in deep, fertile, and very well-drained soil. Separate the three bulbs only on the day of planting so the cloves remain firm. Place them pointed end up, 8 cm (3 in) deep and 15 cm (6 in) apart, in sun or very bright partial shade. Water after planting, then wait for the soil to cool before mulching. In the spring, weed early, apply a moderate nitrogen fertilizer, and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Cut the garlic flowers after their first curl to support the size of the heads.
