  • Music Garlic is a hard-necked Porcelain garlic variety particularly prized in colder climates for its vigor, large cloves, and long shelf life. A well-developed head typically contains 4 to 7 large, fleshy cloves under thick, white to pearly-white tunics.
  • Its medium to strong flavor becomes very hot when eaten raw, then mild, well-rounded, and flavorful when roasted. The Van Noort package contains exactly 3 bulbs. The plants grow to about 60 cm (24 in), produce an edible garlic scape in early summer, and are hardy to zone 2. Harvest is in mid-summer.

Plant the cloves in the fall, at least four weeks before the last hard frost, in a sunny or very lightly shaded location. Separate the three bulbs only after the soil has been prepared. Orient each clove upwards, 8 cm (3 in) deep, with 15 cm (6 in) between plants and about 30 cm (12 in) between rows. Deep, loose, fertile, and well-drained soil prevents winter rot. Water after planting, then mulch when the soil cools. In spring, weed early, apply moderate fertilizer, maintain consistent moisture, and harvest the stalks at their first loop to encourage head development.
