Regular garlic is a standard soft-necked garlic sold by Van Noort in packs of three bulbs for planting. Each head typically bears nine to twenty-four small to medium-sized cloves, protected by several layers of pale, papery tunics.

Its mild to medium flavor is suitable for everyday cooking, raw or cooked, without overpowering other ingredients. The flat, upright, green foliage reaches about 60 cm (24 in) in height, then softens and turns yellow with age. Grown as an annual vegetable, this hardy garlic is suitable for zones 2 to 10. It is productive, adaptable to a variety of well-drained soils, and valued for its storage qualities until spring after successful drying.

Plant the cloves in the fall, in sun or bright partial shade, in loose, fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Separate the three bulbs one or two days before planting, being careful not to damage the base of the cloves. Place each bulb, pointed end up, 8 cm (3 in) deep, with 15 cm (6 in) between plants and about 30 cm (12 in) between rows. After the soil has cooled, add a clean straw mulch to moderate freeze-thaw cycles. In spring, maintain consistent moisture without overwatering, weed early, and fertilize moderately. Reduce watering once the lower leaves begin to yellow.
